In Islam, a believer’s life revolves around sabr (صبر — patience) and shukr (شكر — gratitude).

Sabr means patience, endurance, and trust in Allah during hardships. It is the strength to remain calm and steadfast when faced with trials, knowing that every test carries wisdom.

“Indeed, Allah is with the patient.” — Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153

Shukr means gratitude — being thankful to Allah for all blessings, both big and small. It is expressed by the heart, tongue, and actions.

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor].” — Surah Ibrahim 14:7

Together, Sabr and Shukr represent the balance of a true believer’s heart: showing patience in hardship and gratitude in ease. Both are acts of worship that draw one closer to Allah and reflect deep faith and contentment with His plan.
